A bus route was diverted away from an area in Tameside on Monday evening (November 4) following reports of youths 'throwing stones' and 'smashing windows'.

The 201 Stagecoach service, which operates from Hattersley, through Hyde and Denton, to Manchester city centre, had its route changed on Monday night due to reports of anti-social behaviour

The bus operator said that the route was being diverted away from Hattersley, instead running from Mottram Road in both directions 'until further notice.'

An update on social media said: "We are sorry to report that due to youths causing ASB and throwing stones at our vehicles smashing windows we are now diverting services away from Hattersley.

"Services will operate via Mottram Road in both directions until further notice."

The incidents have been a problem blighting bus services in the area for over five years. The Manchester Evening News reported in 2019 how concerns were raised about buses serving the estate after teenagers and children launched attacks on the vehicles.

Some services even had to be escorted by police vans at the time following spates of 'unruly behaviour' and passengers being terrorised.

Further details about the latest incidents or any arrests made have not been confirmed. Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for further details.
