A town in Greater Manchester has been named as the cheapest place in England to get a pint of beer, according a new study listing the cheapest parts of the country to get a pint.

As the nights grow longer many might be drawn to warm glow of the pub on a chilly evening. But while going out for a pint in some parts of the country would see you having to sell a kidney, preferably before a night on the tiles, others are much cheaper.

Of those, Bury comes in as the cheapest place in England for a pint of beer, clocking in at £2.75 a pint. This is some 50p below the average in England of £3.25.

Nonetheless, it's still well above the cheapest place overall. This is in Wrexham where a pint is just £2, according to the research from Alliance Online.

Bury isn't the only part of Greater Manchester to make the list either. It's joined by Bolton, which comes in second place with a price of just £3.10 a pint.

Though in fairness, anyone who's been out in Manchester city centre recently will know that when it comes to the price of a pint there's clearly some huge variation here. While Bury is at £2.75, pints exceeding £6 are becoming an increasingly common occurrence in the city centre.

Commenting on the findings, Rachael Kiss from Alliance Online said: "Our study shows that customers can still very much get a bargain beer if they look for one, with the cost of a pint varying depending on where you live in the UK. We were surprised to see such low prices in unexpected places that have lots of well-reviewed local pubs. This is good news for locals and tourists alike!

"It is worth noting that no matter how cheap establishments price their beer, cleanliness of beer lines should remain a top priority. This is because not cleaning beer lines properly could risk a poor food hygiene rating from the Food Standards Agency. See our selection of beerline cleaners here."
