Temu is known for offering its shoppers a wide range of products at very budget-friendly prices. From mops to cat stickers and literally everything in between, if you’re after something random, quirky and cheap, the Chinese company probably has it.

However, sometimes these low prices and imaginative offers come with a catch. A recent video from TikTok user Neta Murphy (@froginahatgirl) stunned viewers after she claimed her Temu croissant lamp was a real pastry covered in lacquer. Sharing her story, she explained her sisters had bought her the pastry-shaped light and she had placed it in her room.

Croissant

She went on: “I came home from work after a hot day and there were like, hundreds of ants underneath it. I was like, ‘Why the f*** would ants want a fake croissant?’. And like, I'm almost wondering if this is a f****** literal, real, croissant."

Showing off the lamp in question she revealed it resembled the French pastry perfectly.

Upon further examination of the product, Neta’s suspicions only grew, as she suspected the croissant was an actual pastry coated in resin. She went on: “The ants were going in the hole, so I just poked a bigger hole. It lowkey looks like a f****** croissant under there... Hang on," she says, moving it around to show it off from a different angle.

Upon breaking open the item, and showing it to the camera, it definitely looked like it was flaky, delicious pastry on the inside. Giving it a prod, crumbs began to fall out, which only heightened her suspicions.

Deciding the only way to find out if the lamp was actually a croissant covered in lacquer, she broke a bit off and gave it a taste. Her final judgement? “It's literally f****** food,'” she told viewers.

The video, which has been watched over 13 million times, was inundated with comments from people. One user joked: “I gotta check my cat lamp i got from temu…” Another person added: “I have a chicken nugget key ring from Temu and I’ve always been convinced it’s a real nugget in resin.” And someone else wrote: “NO THEY DIDNT JUST SHOVE A LIGHT INSIDE A CROISSANT AND THEN COAT IT IN RESIN I CANT.”

Other people were more horrified that Neta actually tasted it. One person wrote: “Taking a bite out of a lamp you bought from temu is actually insane.”

Manchester Evening News has reached out to Temu for comment.
