Nothing screams the start of Christmas quite like the John Lewis Christmas ad dropping. And that time is nearly upon us.
John Lewis has posted a teaser for this year's Christmas ad on social media and announced that it will drop next week on Thursday 14 November.
The teaser includes just three brief musical notes behind a video of people ice skating around a sofa. But the vagueness of the teaser hasn’t stopped fans from rushing to the comments to speculate on what song and themes might be behind 2024’s John Lewis Christmas ad.

John Lewis posted the teaser on Instagram. They wrote: “Tick-tock, tick-tock. #TheGiftingHour”, which has sent fans into a frenzy.
Someone wrote: “O.M.G - the moment everyone waits for”, while another person commented: “Xmas doesn’t start until the JL ad”.
People can’t wait to feast their eyes upon the ad next week. One John Lewis fan wrote: “Roll on 14th Nov, officially the start of Christmas”, and another agreed: “Christmas will officially start”.
Social media users have gone mad guessing the themes of the ad. Someone wrote: “I think the sofa will feature a generation of a family, over Christmas’ past and present and I’m certain it's going to be a tearjerker.”
Another person wished: “Please be a magical sofa that which comes alive”
As well as guessing what the contents of the ad might include, people are also guessing the song. Someone wrote: “Is that Time After Time I can hear?” And another person agreed: “Is that Time after Time …?! Can’t wait!!”
But another person disagreed and commented: “Am I hearing Strings' Unstoppable?”
The good thing is, we don’t have long to wait. All will be revealed next week on Thursday 14 November.
While John Lewis somewhat pioneered the Christmas ad tradition, other big brands have begun their own in recent years. Someone commented under John Lewis' announcement: “So excited. So many good ones this year but John Lewis is always King of Ads at Christmas time”.

Last year the John Lewis Christmas ad was to the song Festa by Andrea Bocelli and was about a family getting ready for Christmas, with the involvement of a giant Venus fly trap.
A fan-favourite ad in recent years was 2019s Can’t Stop This Feeling by Bastille featuring the adorable fire-breathing Edgar the dragon, who just couldn't help setting fire to everything.
So far this year, Aldi has released its Christmas ad with the long-awaited return of the idolised Kevin the Carrot who saved the Christmas spirit from evil humbugs.
M&S have released its Christmas ad which sees Dawn French return to voice a festive fairy. The adored Roald Dahl character the BFG stars in Sainsbury’s 2024 Christmas ad. And chef Nigella Lawson endorses Greggs in its seasonal campaign this year.
