A new Tesco store in Stockport will open this week, it has been confirmed. The supermarket giants are opening a convenience store on Mersey Square in the town centre, facing the new Stockport interchange.
The Tesco Express will open its doors for the first time at 8am tomorrow (Friday, November 8). Open from 6am to 11pm each day, the 3,367 sqft store will offer customers a selection of groceries, fresh produce, and everyday essentials.
Bosses say its location is "ideal for shoppers on the go, local workers, and nearby residents." Local groups will also benefit from the Community Food Connection scheme, which redistributes surplus food to charities and community groups every day, they add.

Tesco once had a store inside Merseyway Centre. However, the chain's nearest store had been the huge Tesco Extra superstore off the Portwood Roundabout.
A spokesperson for the firm said: “We are extremely excited to be opening our new store and providing great service to our customers. We’ve got new colleagues joining the team from the local area and through our community programmes we hope to make an impact locally and play a key role in the local community.”
Victoria Nichol, Merseyway Centre Manager, said: “Tesco Express will be a fantastic addition to Merseyway, offering a convenient shopping option for both the local community and visitors.
"We had identified that there was a need for a high-quality supermarket retailer in this area of the town centre, so we’re thrilled to welcome Tesco and their team to the centre.”
It joins JD Sports and Poundland in recently opening stores in the Merseyway which councils say is a sign of "exciting growth" in the town as well as "real confidence from nationally renowned retailers."
Colin Macalister, Cabinet Member for Economy, Regeneration and Housing at Stockport Council, said: "“This opening highlights our commitment to transforming Merseyway and the wider area—a change that’s clear to see in our thriving high street and across the town centre."
